Inspiration

Vivian Maier

Vivian Maier’s genius with light and interesting perspective on everything is one of my biggest inspirations.  I have gone through her portfolio twice and have also watched the documentary on her and I am extremely interested in her life and secret passion for photography.  Her pictures are so creative and every time I look at them I think of ways I can implement her techniques into my work.

Adam DeGross

Adam DeGross is the tour photographer for Post Malone, and I love his work.  He started off in high school, sneaking into punk rock shows with a old camera to take pictures.  He dropped out of college to follow his dream of being a photographer and has done some fantastic work with sub-par supplies.  One of his more famous pictures was taken with a disposable camera, and his creativity and perspective is really cool and inspiring to me.

Photography, To me

Photography, to me, is just about the only way for me to express my artistic ability. I can kind of draw, and I am alright with various crafts, but photography is special to me because I can take a vision and make it happen.  Photography is more scientific in the sense where you can experiment, notice a problem, and fix it.  The skill and vision of regular artistry is still needed, but the mechanical aspect is nicer for me.  A camera allows me to produce an image that I could never make myself through painting or drawing, and that is great.

Photography also allows me to take a new perspective on almost everything I see.  When I see an object or event, a recurring thought I have is how could I take a picture of this to make it interesting.  Most of the time I just think about it and don’t bother trying to make it happen, but everything I see intrigues me.  Photography makes things in my life interesting, and I enjoy searching for the perfect setting and angle to get the perfect shot.  There is a good photograph in everything, making photography the best and most expansive art form for me.

Another reason I love photography is that it is an evolving art form.  Not only are subjects for photographs constantly changing, but the equipment is changing as well.  New trends in photography develop every day, new people get involved, and scenery changes.  Photography changes constantly, allowing for fresh and new pictures to be developed all the time.  I also love the technological aspects of photography.  There are cool new cameras that come out with impressive features and innovations.  Old cameras are impressive also with their simplicity and charisma.  The variety in components and technology is fascinating to me, and it's just another fantastic factor that contributes to my love of photography.

Finally, photography is a challenge.  I am always learning better ways to take pictures and perfecting techniques to acquire the best image.  Every picture I take provides a learning experience, where I see what is wrong and aim to fix it.  Every time I take a picture I learn something new and constantly apply what I learn later on, all in the pursuit of the perfect shot.
